(This is a full time position)


Basic Function:  The Discipleship Pastor will share in the Chambersburg First Church of God vision for discipleship, and will advance forward this vision through the design of a purposeful plan by which an attender can be led to Christ and guided through the process to become a fully mature Christian.  The Discipleship Pastor will provide people the ability to identify where they are in their walk, and then determine a ministry point where they can and should engage, based on spiritual criteria.  The Discipleship Pastor will be a key leader to champion for the small group leaders, help them get equipped, be their accountability, answer their questions, assist them through life, and empower them to be the leaders God designed them to be.


Moral Qualifications:

  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing relationship with Him and a lifestyle that reflects a high standard of godliness by behavior, speech, and attitude evident by personal prayer, obedience to the Word of God, and proven ability to discern the Lord’s will and guidance in decision-making
  • A staff member who strives to live in such a way as to bring the utmost respect in representing the church
  • A visionary who is creative in leading people to God
  • Membership (within 6 months of accepting the position) in The Chambersburg First Church of God
  • Theologically in agreement with the CFCOG statement of faith and core values
  • A routine financial supporter through regular tithes and offerings



  • Develop and implement a cohesive and comprehensive strategy to connect members into authentic community for the purpose of life transformation.  These connections include the existing and new Sunday AM classes, Wednesday PM classes and home-based community groups
  • Identify, recruit and develop small group coaches, leaders, Sunday School and Wednesday PM leaders
  • Lead and pastor the small group coaches team
  • Champion and create movement into small groups
  • Meet with individuals considering starting a group or needing to refocus an existing group
  • Have knowledge of and approve small group materials
  • Provide for the administrative systems necessary to ensure CFCOG is a church of vital small groups
  • Note the significance of trained competent leaders and provide periodic evaluations
  • Assimilate new visitors, new believers, and new members into the life of the congregation in conjunction with the boards, committees, and organizations of the congregation
  • Develop a process that will enable and promote spiritual growth and maturity in the lives of the church members
  • Increase the percentage of church members actively participating in small groups and church ministries
  • Assist in pastoral care as needed and assigned by the Senior Pastor
  • Serve as a part of the biblical-communication team with occasional preaching
  • Oversee the First Impressions Team (FIT) ministry
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and work as one of the staff team in protecting and accomplishing the vision of the church



  • Ensures constant growth in his/her personal relationship with Christ
  • Maintains a healthy marriage and family relationships (if applicable)
  • Reports to the Senior Pastor for strategy, accountability, personal development and communication of ministry progress
  • Leads in a way that demonstrates healthy staff relationships
  • Leads and oversees the small group coaches and small group leaders
  • Maintains healthy relationships with church members



  • BS or BA in ministry or related field
  • 2-3 years experience as a pastor in a comparable role
  • Effective communicator and teacher
  • Must have good organizational skills, attention to detail, self starter and a team player
  • A strong commitment to CFCOG and its vision
  • An ability and strong commitment to developing people and leaders through modeling and training
  • Ability and willingness to take direction and work with the CFCOG leadership
  • Broad spectrum of interpersonal and social media based skills are a plus



  • This position will report to the Senior Pastor
  • The performance of the responsibilities will be evaluated by the Senior Pastor
