Job Description:

We are seeking a gifted and dynamic contemporary worship and spiritual leader – a person committed to Christ with strong vocal, instrumental (piano and/or guitar) skills, significant up-front leadership abilities, with a proven record of developing worship skills and the spiritual lives of volunteers and building ministry teams.

The Contemporary Service currently has between 60 and 90 people attending weekly. We are committed to a dynamic vision and are poised for significant growth. Our 2013 remodeled and upgraded building is designed to facilitate a high quality and dynamic worship experience. We highly value both the traditional and contemporary services we offer yet understand that the contemporary service is fundamental to the future of our church. Our intent is to remain multi-generational within each service but see the need to attract more students and young families to the Contemporary Service.


Purpose: Provide leadership for the ministry of contemporary worship (and shared leadership with other staff for combined and special services). This involves identifying and developing the gifts of volunteers as well as other staff and/or interns; building ministry teams; developing and implementing creative and meaningful worship services; guiding spiritual growth and providing dynamic and authentic up-front worship leadership.


As Director of Contemporary Worship:
I. Plan Worship Services (approx. 8+ hours per week)
o Plan services for Contemporary Service that reflects our vision and values
o Finalize services in conjunction with Senior Pastor, Design Team and/or Music Director of Traditional Worship
o Develop and lead volunteer Worship Design Team (spiritual growth and planning)
o Develop and coordinate leadership of Worship Ministry Teams (implementation) – i.e. Readers, Drama, Dance, Welcome/Hospitality, Prayer, Visual Arts, Aesthetics
o Coordinate and schedule all contemporary worship related teams
o Evaluate and develop repertoire, drawing from a variety of musical styles
o Assist with planning of other CPC services, i.e. Combined, Vespers
o Serve as an active member of the Worship Commission
II. Lead Worship Services (6+ hours per week)
o Serve as primary worship leader
o Lead mid-week and pre-service rehearsals
o Coordinate various worship elements (i.e. musicians, vocalists, liturgist, sound, projection)
III. Develop and Lead Volunteers*, Interns, Worship Staff (5+ hours per week)
o Develop planning and implementation teams (see Plan Worship section above)
o Develop a Worship Arts Community (focusing on areas such as: recruitment, spiritual growth, vision, community, and musical enhancement)
o Develop and supervise Contemporary Service worship interns
o Lead Tech Team
* i.e. musicians, vocalists, creative/performing artists, tech, worship leaders
IV. Participate in CPC Staff Team & Church Activities (3+ hours per week)
o Attend weekly staff meetings and semi-annual staff retreats
o Assist with leading in other areas of church life
o Attend other church events, as appropriate and/or requested
V. General (3+ hour per week)
o Spend time in personal musical practice and spiritual development
o Order and maintain music files (paper and/or electronic)
o Purchase and maintain music equipment
o Prepare and manage budget
o Develop and fulfill SMART objectives
o Seek out & engage with community resources in music and the arts


I. Spiritual

II. Musical/Worship leading abilities:
o Experienced and gifted in leading contemporary worship teams
o Lead while playing piano and/or guitar
o Strong lead vocalist
o Strong public communication and “up front” leadership
o Read and play from piano/vocal sheet music and chord charts
o Play, sing and lead music in a variety of styles
o Working knowledge of instruments and voices used in contemporary worship
o Set music in appropriate keys for congregational singing
o Familiarity with equipment such as microphones, monitors, cables, soundboard, projection equipment, worship software…
o Exposure to a wide variety of musical genres is helpful
III. Educational:
o Bachelor’s Degree preferred
o Ministry development training preferred
IV. Other:

Experience: 5 years of contemporary worship leadership and some ministry development preferred
Salary: Competitive
Pay to Relocate: Negotiable
