The church is conservative theologically and supports the Baptist Faith and Message as adopted in 2000. It is expected that any pastoral candidate’s views would be consistent with those of the church body as a whole, and a passion to reach the lost and to make disciples of the saved is essential. The church mission statement is: “Love God, Love Others, Make Disciples … Across The Street and Around The World“ FBC-Bloomfield is a strong supporter of the Cooperative Program and is a recognized leader in giving to the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong Mission Offerings.

The church’s giving has continued to exceed its budgetary requirements during the current economic downturn, including donations of capital funds required to pay down a major building project promissory note. The building project was undertaken during the current recession.

A master’s degree or doctoral degree related to ministry is a plus. Past service as either a senior pastor or as a senior staff member at a church of a size that would prepare the candidate to lead a church of FBC-Bloomfield’s size and diversity is a plus. The ability to lead a multi-level staff and groups of volunteers is an important attribute.

Bloomfield is located in the high desert of the Four Corners Region of New Mexico, and is about 45 minutes south of Durango, Colorado. The cities of Bloomfield, Farmington, and Aztec form a triangle of cities along the rivers flowing through San Juan County, New   Mexico, and they are located approximately 10 miles from each other along the legs of the triangle. The church draws members from all three cities and the surrounding unincorporated areas of the San Juan County.

San   Juan County has a population in excess of 100,000 people. The county has three dominate cultures: Anglo, Hispanic, and Navajo. There are other minorities in the community as well. The extractive industries of oil and gas along with coal are the economic base of the County.

Citizens of the County experience outstanding four-season weather, world-class trout fishing and hunting, and excellent hiking, biking, and camping opportunities. Snow skiing is about one hour’s drive away In the winter, and the area supports several outstanding golf courses, including the Farmington Municipal course which has been repeatedly voted one of the nation’s best municipal courses by Golf Digest.

Bloomfield and its surrounding area is a blue collar community whose citizens are predominately employed in various energy-related fields, agriculture, and public service jobs. The income level of the church members exceeds those of similarly situated areas due to the nature of well-paying energy-related jobs, independent businesses that serve the energy industry, and relatively low taxes in the area.
