Job Description:
Job Status: part-time, flexible schedule as approved by supervisor, monthly total not to exceed 20 hours/week, with the possibility of increasing to 30 hours/week.

Position Description
This position is responsible for overseeing ministry to children and their families from birth through grade 6. The Director’s goal is to help create opportunities for children and their families to come to know Christ, grow in Him, and have fellowship with others in a safe and supportive environment. As our church family continues to pursue our calling to “serve one another in love,” we would like to focus on this same message through our Children’s program.

Primary Responsibilities
Sunday School. The Director will supervise all aspects of the Sunday School program, including: the recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision, and recognition of volunteers; the evaluation and purchase of curriculum and supplies; and general oversight and administration of Sunday School activities, including, when necessary, being a substitute Sunday School teacher. This will also include providing Children’s messages in Worship Services on designated Sunday mornings and in leading Children’s worship on designated Sunday mornings (typically once a month).

Family Support. The Director will provide support and communication to children and their families at the church. Support may take the form of informal communications, email or Internet contact, meetings, special family events, informal gatherings, short-term counseling, and prayer.

Outreach. The Director will coordinate with staff, the Children’s Ministry Committee, and volunteers to reach out to the community to share Christ’s love. This will involve oversight of monthly outreach projects. Projects will include, but are not limited to; Christmas Caroling night, Vacation Bible School, assistance with the Winter Relief Program, and Operation Christmas Child. This will also include coordination with other groups such as MOPS (Mother of Preschoolers) and the Centerville Church Preschool.

General Administration. The Director will staff the Children’s Ministry Committee, and will attend monthly Session meetings and weekly staff meetings. This position will develop as well as provide oversight and accountability for the Children’s Ministry budget, along with working with church staff, the Children’s Committee, and Session to ensure appropriate management of Children’s Ministries.

Qualifications & Skills
• An evident faith and commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
• Ability to communicate well with staff, volunteers, and committees
• Organizational skills
• Basic computer skills: Word, excel
• A belief in the importance of children in the life of a church
• Ability to recruit, provide support, training and encouragement to volunteer staff
• Demonstrated leadership in children’s ministry or related field

• AA Degree or higher in a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Two or more years experience in Children’s Ministry
