Reports to:  Senior Pastor

Position Supervised by: Church Board


Measurable Criteria:

  • Agreement with our church’s vision, goals and statement of faith*
  • Prefer three years youth ministry experience in a growing youth ministry
  • Prefer a Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university (some Seminary or college level Bible course study desired)
  • Experience managing others


Observable Qualifications:

  • A strong walk with God through a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Ability to teach and mentor youth in their spiritual walk
  • Teachable, with a desire to grow in their faith and abilities
  • A self starter—highly motivated
  • Has a passion for youth ministry
  • Understands youth culture today
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  •  Team player with effective relational skills (works well with others)


Job Description:

  1. Set the vision for the youth ministry with a plan to carry it out
  • Create a Biblical purpose statement for the youth group including at least these three elements: spiritual growth (which includes Biblical teaching, discipleship, worship and fellowship), evangelism, and student leadership
  1. Develop and lead programs according to the vision and purpose of the youth ministry
  • Plan spiritual growth programs, activities and events that include opportunities for kids to worship, fellowship with each other, learn Biblical truths and apply them to their lives (spiritual growth)
  • Create outreach programs, activities and events (evangelism)
  •  Plan programs, activities or events, developing students who want to reach out and serve others, impacting them with the love of Christ (student leadership)  (There is a strong existing youth sponsor volunteer group)
  1. Build and maintain relationships with kids both churched and unchurched
  • Meet regularly with kids from the youth group
  •  Befriend unchurched kids with no strings attached
  •  Seek out opportunities to “hang out” with kids at school, at sports events, or in the community
  1. Involve students in the ministry of the church as a whole, supporting and participating in the church’s vision, worship services, and activities 
  2. Build and maintain quality relationships with parents
  • Clearly share your vision with parents so they understand the purpose of the youth ministry
  •  Become aware of the needs of the parents
  1. Set and oversee the youth ministry budget
  • Set a budget that reflects the values in your vision and purpose
  •  Propose budget to Church Board
  1. Attend church staff meetings and other leadership meetings as needed.
  2. Provide a monthly report to the senior pastor of your goals, accomplishments, prayers and praises


Time commitment

Youth Pastor will commit 15-20 hours per week in outreach, teaching and spending time with youth.



  • Youth Pastor will receive an annual salary of $10-15,000 for 50 weeks of service based on skills and experience
  • Costs of continuing education requests will be handled on a case by case basis by Church Board
  • Weekend housing, if needed, will be provided
