Job Description:

Liberty United Methodist Church is a fast-growing multi-campus church serving the Northeast part of the Kansas City Metro area.


POSITION:  Full-time, salaried



  • Degree in elementary education and/or children’s religious education strongly preferred
  • Experience leading a children’s ministry in a multi-staff church required



  • Visible passion for Jesus, extensive knowledge of the Bible, and a desire to share it with young children and their families in relevant, engaging, and innovative ways.
  • Broad understanding of technology and its uses in the classroom and as a communication tool (email, social media, websites, etc.)
  • Understanding of child development and issues facing families
  • Tools for creative volunteer recruitment, training, and retention
  • Strong organization, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills
  • Understands and affirms United Methodist theology
  • Able to supervise staff, delegate, and provide follow-through
  • Ability to set and manage a budget



  • Sunday School at two campuses
  • Wednesday evening HIS Kids programming
  • Nursery (Sunday morning and as required)
  • Vacation Bible School
  • Special Events
  • Regular and periodic children’s participation in worship, including Sunday children’s sermons



  • Expand scope of ministry to include ministry to entire families with children
  • Outward focus of children’s ministry (ministry as an outreach to new families)
       - Community needs assessments (single moms, widows, tutoring, etc.)
       - The ministry as a venue for outreach to non- and nominally-religious families
       - Collaboration for family-friendly service activities
  • Leadership development of existing leaders
  • Volunteer recruitment, training, deployment, and retention
  • Application and enforcement of children’s Safe Sanctuary policy
  • Familiarity with curriculum and the usage of technology in instruction
  • Creating community among families
  • Continuing education
  • Other ministry opportunities as they become known
