POSITION FOCUS

CENTRE STREET CHURCH (CSC) has a rich and exciting fifty year history that exemplifies an unwavering commitment to “introducing people to Jesus and helping them become fully-devoted followers of Jesus.” Thousands of people have come to know the Lord and experience the encouragement of true Biblical community. 50 years ago CSC began with 62 people attending the first worship service; today we minister to over 6000 people. Our worship experience is marked by four distinct worship styles in 4 services with celebratory worship, choir and orchestra, use of the arts and a variety of vocal and instrumental groups. Dr. Henry Schorr preaches at each of the four services with the help of other communicators throughout the year. Our main campus was completed in 2003 with a 2,400 seat worship centre and appropriate supporting space with the exception of meeting rooms. These are housed on the original site, called the West Campus. CSC currently has zero debt on its building projects.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of CSC is being led by a visionary leader who believes in collaborating with staff and lay leaders. Dr. Schorr has cast vision toward the future which is known today as our 2020 Focus. This focus delineates the kind of church we believe God would have us become by the year 2020. We are in the process currently of prayerfully planning how this focus will strategically impact our ministries. Further, we also carry a vision for helping an increasing number of people to experience Biblical Community. This vision is the driving force in seeking to hire a Pastor of Worship & Youth for our North West Calgary Regional Campus. It is our sincere hope and prayer that CSC will engage in regional ministries in the four quadrants of the City of Calgary, the Calgary area, the province and the world.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE for the Worship and Youth Pastor role is an energetic, passion filled and creative leader who shares our vision for being “one church in many locations”. Further the ideal candidate understands this vision will play itself out in the following ways:
• An increasing number of people are experiencing Biblical Community;
• An increasing number of people are becoming reproducing leaders; and
• An increasing number of people are evidencing the signs of a fully devoted follower of Christ.

The successful applicant will advance the philosophy of worship that guides our worship dynamic at CSC. This philosophy is reflected in our desire to create celebratory God-centered worship experiences that involve a combination of worship teams, choir and orchestra, ensembles, vocalists, instrumentalists, and other artists. Furthermore, our philosophy of worship includes the teaching, coaching and mentoring of individuals in their unique areas of giftedness.

The successful applicant will advance the philosophy of youth ministry that guides our ministry to our junior and senior high youth. This philosophy is reflected in our desire to see youth growing in their faith as fully devoted followers of Christ, experiencing meaningful relationships with one another, serving the Lord in the “arenas” in which they live and sharing their faith with their friends. We believe that youth are looking for a faith experience that is real and authentic to their generation and therefore their church experience must be in alignment with this reality.

We are looking therefore for someone to carry this vision forward into the exciting future that we know God has prepared for us in our North West Calgary Regional Campus.
