Job Title:    Director of Facilities

Division:    Operations

Reports To:    Executive Director - Operations

Salary:    Depends on Experience

Exempt/Non-Exempt:    Non-Exempt, Full-time

SUMMARY: The Facilities Director is a high-level ministry position requiring a high-level leader.  This role will provide leadership, vision and strategy in the area of Facilities.  Recruiting, motivating and developing volunteer and staff leaders is a critical component of this position.  The Facilities Director will oversee all areas of Facilities and build-up the ministry in order to create an environment that inspires people to connect with God.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  1. Provides leadership and direction in all aspects of administering a facilities management department including strategic planning and customer-focused programs.

  2. Oversees the overall operations of department.

  3. Establishes and implements short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.

  4. Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the department function; recruits, employs, supervises and evaluates departmental staff and volunteers/volunteer leaders; directs the implementation of management development, skills training, and safety.

  5. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.

  6. Recommends and participates in the development of church policies and procedures; may serve on planning and policy-making committees.

  7. Represents Sandals Church to various government agencies and/or the general public/local community as it relates to facilities management.

  8. Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources for the unit.

  9. Supervises the planning and construction of all new buildings and major renovation and repair of existing facilities.

  10. Advises Leadership on the funding needs to adequately maintain the physical facilities of the institution, and assists the administration in the allocation of fiscal resources for various capital improvement and maintenance projects on the campus.

  11. Coordinate, schedule and supervise sub-contractors.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees and volunteers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Must be able to recruit, inspire and lead several volunteer leaders and volunteer teams.

  • Ability to use independent judgment.

  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.

  • Ability to participate in the planning and construction of new buildings, as well as major renovation and repair projects.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the management of utility systems.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; or four to ten years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate machines and power equipment. Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 pounds. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud at times. Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
