Job Description - My First School Preschool Director


Position Title: My First School Preschool Director

Reports To: Pastor & My First School Board

Hours Required (School Year): September 1 through May 31 – 32 hours per week (average)

Hours Required (Summer): June 1 through August 31 – 14 hours per week (average)

Salary Range: $19,500 – $22,500 (approx. $14-16/hour), plus paid vacation, professional development time, a full scholarship for children or Christmas bonus (based upon job & overall school performance), & holiday/sick/bereavement pay (as defined by the handbook of First Baptist)


Program Administration

  • Assume responsibility for the daily operation of the preschool program
  • Act as liaison between the preschool board, the preschool staff, and the preschool families
  • Act as liaison between the preschool and the church, attending weekly church staff meetings
  • Provide community outreach, becoming involved in relevant events and programs
  • Assume all recruitment duties including program marketing, applications, open houses, building tours, etc.
  • Maintain policies and procedures for program operation

Program Operation

  • Supervise registration and enrollment
  • Manage program data including class & program rosters
  • Facilitate preparation for and implementation of parent teacher conferences
  • Plan school year calendar
  • Work with preschool board and staff on the assessment of equipment needs
  • Post and maintain a working calendar of program activities
  • Outline expectations for and monitor communications with parents
  • Keep program in compliance with the licensing requirements of the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services as outlined in The Ohio Revised Code Chapters 5101:2-2 & 5104

Program Development

  • Remain current on issues and trends in early childhood education
  • Oversee ongoing needs for teacher training
  • Encourage and provide opportunities for team building and staff collaboration
  • Provide a vision for program development and change
  • Implement strategies to recruit and maintain enrollment

 Office Administration

  • Oversight of office responsibilities, either personally or through hired staff, including but not limited to:
  • Program supply maintenance
  • Student records
  • Payroll
  • Tuition payments
  • Payables and receivables
  • School pictures

Budget Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing first draft of budget & financial projections to the preschool board
  • Identify resources to support budget responsibilities, including fundraising opportunities

Program Supervision

  • Assure that regular preschool & classroom updates are given to parents
  • Communication to all staff members of key program dates, program vision, program prayer needs, etc.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings
  • Evaluate teachers on an annual basis & provide regular coaching of performance
  • Dismiss or suspend preschool employees as determined necessary by the director, preschool board, and/or pastoral staff. Any such action should be reviewed and confirmed by the preschool board.
  • Prepare staff contracts, to be reviewed by preschool board
  • Interview and select substitute teachers
  • Develop substitute teacher procedures
  • Supervise implementation of licensing and safety procedures
  • Supervise implementation of program curriculum
  • Maintain staff & student records
  • Provide support for teachers
  • Maintain a visible presence to staff, students and preschool families

Education/Experience Requirements

  • A high school diploma and one of the following: 1) Associates or higher degree in early childhood/child development, 2) A Teaching License, 3) Designation under the career pathways model as an early childhood professional level three, 4) Two years of experience in a child care setting and an early childhood professional level one, 5) Two years of experience in a child care setting and a CDA, 6) Two year of training including 4 college courses in child development or early childhood, 7) Montessori accreditation with an early childhood credential
  • Bachelor’s Degree, in the areas of Childhood Education & Development preferred
  • Experience in running a preschool or Child Care Center preferred

  • Ability to understand and manage the complexities of a preschool program
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with pastoral staff, preschool board, parents, children, and staff
  • Flexibility in coordination of preschool program with church vision, needs, & calendar

Spiritual Requirements

  • Must able to articulate a testimony of saving faith in Christ and be able to demonstrate how that faith has a current impact upon one’s life (please provide a statement to this end with resume)

  • It is strongly preferred that the MFS Director would become an active member of the First Baptist Church of Aurora Congregation. If not, the director must be active in service and regular attendance in a local church setting and meet a minimum average of once-per-month participation at First Baptist Church of Aurora in all-church event or Sunday morning worship
