Job Description for Worship Leader/Director

Principal Function: Lead MGCC in consistent, meaningful, participatory worship; effectively
develop existing and future worship leaders creating a multi-sensory worship experience.

Hours: 30+ hours/week

Education: Bachelor’s degree in music preferred

• Strong, growing faith relationship with Jesus Christ
• Acceptance of an adherence to the Covenant Affirmations of the
Evangelical Covenant Church
• Demonstrated ability to lead worship
• Able to develop leaders
• Strong musical gifts and abilities
• Proven leadership and organizational skills
• Proven ability to develop and manage teams of volunteers, who have somewhat diverse worship tastes
• Working knowledge of Media Shout software to include ability to design power point presentation with moving backgrounds (preferred)
• Experience with leading people to engage in other creative elements, e.g. drawing, art, participatory experiences

Responsible to: Sr. Pastor

1. Plan weekly orders of worship based upon Sr. Pastor’s worship projections and incorporate
Sr. Pastor’s feedback
2. Organize schedules of worship team members; responsible for developing current
talent and recruiting new talent to include singers and musicians. Partner with
the worship commission to make recommendations regarding recruitment and ongoing talent development in the areas of technology, atmosphere, and decor .
3. Lead the worship service with excellence & passion. The teams are to be well
rehearsed and ready to lead worship each week both musically and spiritually.
4. Schedule and oversee any special music (solos, ensembles, choirs etc.)
5. Work with the Worship Commission to further develop the understanding and experience of
worship and to evaluate and improve our execution.
6. Plan, rehearse, and direct seasonal services (Christmas Eve, Good Friday, Easter,
Thanksgiving Eve)
7. Oversee and manage the worship budget
8. Oversee maintenance of pianos, and other instruments
9. Intentionally have a 3-Fold Focus
• Move the congregation further into living out our vision
• Deliver a high level quality product (worship service) each week
• Minister personally/pastorally to the people involved in Worship Ministries
10. Propose new steps in our worship growth
