Job Description:

In 1980, a small group of people had the desire to form a church to share the life transforming love of God with the surrounding campus and community. The vision of Community Church is “to seek out and encourage all people to be growing disciples of Jesus Christ.”  Matthew 28:18-20 continues today through a growing and vibrant church. Average Sunday worship is 1,000 and 600 people are part of small groups. Located in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, near the campus of Central Michigan University, Community Church is a strong presence in the community through outreach and volunteerism. The Mt. Pleasant area is a growing education and business district with a new medical school starting this fall. Also with many parks, a children’s museum, good schools and friendly people, Mt. Pleasant is a great place to raise a family.

The Associate Pastor will be an integral part of the senior leadership team at Community Church. Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee ministry directors and the management of day to day ministry
  • Work with fellow leaders to bring people to God through a welcoming church
  • Assist the Lead Pastor with implementing the vision of Community Church
  • Assist with preaching 12-15 times per year
  • Provide vision and leadership for global and local missions
  • Provide assistance in Pastoral care

Profile of Associate Pastor:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships quickly
  • Strong leadership skills and abilities to lead and direct staff daily
  • Growing and living relationship with Jesus Christ
  •  Strong budgeting, business and administrative skills
  • Committed to self-care
  • Wise leader and relationally smart

Experience and Education:

  • Masters of Divinity
  • Ordainable in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church
  • At least 5 years in a full-time pastoral ministry
  • Experience in a multi-staff church of at least 500-700 people
