Job Description:

Principle Function


Plan, administer, coordinate, supervise and evaluate a comprehensive and active Children’s Ministry and subsequent Family Ministry for Calvary Baptist Church. The children’s ministry exists to come alongside parents to help them in their God-given responsibility of discipling their children or act as an encourager to the child and parents when parents abdicate their responsibility.


Specific List of Responsibilities


Develop and implement a strategic plan of ministry to children. Plan should include purpose statements, time sensitive goals, action steps, and review/evaluation of the process. 


Plan, implement a strategy of ministry that works to come alongside the parents of children, grades 1-6 to help them disciple their children. 


Provide an hour of Bible Study on Sunday Mornings for children, grades 1-6. This would include planning, enlisting volunteers, implementing variables such as space allocation, curriculum considerations, supply acquisition, promotion, and coordination with the other ministries of the church. 


Provide a children’s worship option for grades 1-6 that would parallel the normal Worship Venues on Sunday Mornings. This would include planning, implementing variables such as space allocation, curriculum considerations, etc. 


Provide a children’s program ministry on Wednesday evenings that might include missions, discipleship, evangelism training, and/or ministry opportunities as an outreach to children and their families in the community.


Participate in Outreach in coordination with the Pastoral Staff to families of children, grades 1-6. 


Enlist, train, equip, and provide leadership for adult volunteers to staff the above mentioned program ministries. 


Supervise other staff members responsible for ministry to families of children and preschoolers to bring cohesiveness to the overall ministry of the church to parents.


Direct, Lead, plan, and implement Vacation Bible School. This would include worker enlistment and training, coordination/acquisition of space, volunteers, supplies, curriculum, promotion, decoration, budget considerations, and other aspects involved in Vacation Bible School.


Lead worship (teach/train others to lead) in the children’s worship services on Sunday mornings. 


Plan, coordinate, and implement annual trips such as mission projects, summer camps, summer day trips, weekend retreats, etc. 


Build relationships with children and families of Calvary Baptist Church in order to best minister to them. 


Counsel with children and families on spiritual matters. Offer guidance to children and families to a point where the Associate Pastor of Children feels comfortable in respect to received counseling education and training. 


Other General Responsibilities:


Communicate with the church through communication tools like weekly bulletin articles, email, calendar of events, etc.


Participate in and/or coordinate the search for support staff members directly related to this position.


Give leadership and direction to the program coordination of the church through the participation of administrative and ministerial staff meetings.


Follow and adhere to the policies and procedures of Calvary Baptist Church.


Perform duties as needed and assigned related to the pastoral care of this congregation.

Prepare an annual budget for church budget line items directly managed by this position. Manage those budget line items throughout the church year.


Assist the Senior Pastor in implementing his vision for the church.


Supervise other staff positions as directed by the Senior Pastor and personnel committee.


Coordinate with the Executive Pastor to perform annual performance reviews for employees who are directly supervised by this position.


Serve as staff liaison for committees as directed by the Senior Pastor.


Coordinate with the Executive Pastor to maintain the facilities used by the ministries under the leadership of this position.


Keep the senior pastor informed of all administrative and ministry developments.


Perform other duties as assigned by the senior pastor.
