Job Overview

The Children’s Pastor for Morning Star Church is responsible to oversee the entire children’s ministry to ensure a smoothly operating, safe and effective program. The Children’s Pastor will recruit and train leaders who will touch children’s lives with God’s love, teach them God’s Word and provide fellowship with God’s people – laying a foundation that will keep children interested in the things of God and involved in church.

Continually cast the vision that each child at Morning Star Church will grow into the likeliness of Jesus Christ through: personal daily disciplines, church-based maturity opportunities such as worship, printed and electronically provided material chosen by the Children’s Pastor. Equip, empower, and encourage existing Children’s ministry volunteers to provide a powerful Christian environment.

Be an active staff member and participate in all planning pertaining to the children of Morning Star Church. This job relies heavily on volunteers, and this individual must be an enthusiastic and out-going recruiter and developer.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Regular Weekend Attendance at MSC
• Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the Children’s Ministry including day to day operations, weekend services, events, and service projects.
• Participate at the Children’s Connection Table to visit with children and parents
• Plan and hold regular Children’s Ministry team meetings
• Maintain and Update Children’s Ministry pages on the MSC web-site
• Prepare and manage the Children’s Ministry budget
• Coach, develop and train volunteers
• Recruit new team members
• Develop program to get the parents involved in this ministry
• Develop and participate in the visioning and planning of future children’s events
• Develop Children’s service projects
• Develop the structure and staffing (volunteers) required for the implementation of events such as VBS, Easter Eggstravaganza, Christmas and VBS
• Communicate weekly with new visitors and other requests as communicated
• Make hospital visits or home visits to children when necessary
• Counsel children when needed
• Assist in children’s baptisms
• Assist our children in making the decision to “step across the line”
• Screen children’s volunteer leaders before placing them in ministry including background checks and safe sanctuary training
• Investigate all complaints regarding children’s ministry workers or leaders. Discuss the final outcome with the Pastoral Staff
• Work closely with the Youth Pastor to coordinate a church-wide comprehensive program
• Attend weekly Staff meetings
• Attend weekly Staff devotions

Skills and Talents
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Theological Degree required
• Prefer education in children ministries studies
• Minimum three years of leadership experience in Children’s Ministry
• Leadership abilities
• Organizational Skills
• Ability to share credit, shoulder responsibility and have belief in the core values of the Morning Star Ministry
• Understanding of spiritual needs necessary for children’s ministry
