Children’s Director Position Description: The children’s director is to oversee, develop, and coordinate all areas of children’s ministries. The children’s director provides vision and leadership for ministry with children for the purpose of equipping disciples for Jesus Christ. Ministry Area/Department: Children’s ministry Position: Children’s Director Accountable to: Lead Pastor Ministry target: Children ages pre-school through sixth grade Position is: Part-time paid staff Minimum maturity level: Stable, maturing Christian with a strong commitment to moral standards and Christian values in Scripture Spiritual gifts and strengths: Administration, leadership, shepherding, teaching Talents and abilities desired: Good leadership skills, organizer, some experience and training in children’s ministry, ability to follow-up with children and their families. Best personality traits: Has a heart for children, dependable, creative, energetic, mature, organized, relates well with others, has a positive, encouraging spirit, able to work in a team, and committed to personal, spiritual growth. Passion for: Influencing and affecting children’s lives with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Time commitment each week: Part-time ministry: approximately 15-20 hrs per week Requirements: Background check, application, and resume Position begins: July 1, 2013 Essential Responsibilities and Duties of the job: - Consult and meet with the Lead Pastor and others to envision, strategize and implement a children’s program. - Develop relationships with the children and their families. - Oversee the children’s Sunday school classes. May teach a class if necessary. - Recruit, supervise, disciple, encourage, and work well with volunteers. - Insure proper maintenance of children’s equipment. - Maintain communication and good rapport with the lead pastor and other staff members. - Develop a set of standards for each grade level that are age-appropriate and will help them in their Christian growth and discipleship. - Assist in screening all potential volunteer staff to ensure that each is compliant with the current Child Protection policy standards. - Develop opportunities to equip parents and assist them in “raising their children in the faith.” - Participate in weekly staff meetings to coordinate calendar dates and communicate details of ministry events. - Be able to submit to authority. - Utilize a variety of communication methods to publicize events and notify children, parents, and the congregation. - Have an understanding of and appreciation for Wesleyan theology and United Methodist history and polity and be able to work within those guidelines. - Share the church’s vision of reaching the lost for Christ in the community and beyond. Typical Activities: - Select and order children’s Sunday school curriculum. - Make an annual budget for the children’s ministry area. - Plan and develop Vacation Bible School. Do follow up with the children and their families. - Maintain contact with the preschool teachers and children, doing follow up with the children and their families. - Help the children participate in worship on Sunday morning with children’s sermons, etc. If interested, submit a resume, complete and submit the application found online or available at the church office.
