The Lead Pastor will be responsible for working with the Elders to catalyze the church to accomplish our Mission through teaching, visioning, and aligning the resources of the church. Be comfortable with the following descriptive: elder-led, expository preaching,
leading/equipping, discipleship, evangelism, Spirit sensitive, a moderately contemporary setting and relational. He must be in full agreement with the church By-Laws and policies. The lead pastor will contribute to the planning of the weekly worship gathering,
ensuring that this is done in God honoring and inspiring ways.
Church Info: We started out as a mission outreach 119 years ago to German immigrants. Since then we have become a gathering place for people of all nations and we enjoy our diversity. More than 30 nationalities are represented in the congregation
with at least two languages translated during the services. Vision: We see people gathering together from different background worshiping God as one body. People are moving from unbelief to becoming core spiritual leaders through intentional discipleships,
small groups, service and church planting. We reflect the love of God through serving the community and our world.
Mission: Our Aim is to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ beginning with our international community of Queens.
Purpose: worship, ministry, evangelism, fellowship, and discipleship.
Education: Master’s degree from an accredited seminary.
Experience: A licensed or ordained minister is preferred holding to Elder-led
Baptist teachings; Four years Senior Pastor experience with one congregation preferred; Associate pastoral experience within a large congregation and/or interim pastoral experience with similar longevity also will be considered.
Soteriology: A non-deterministic mediate position where grace is resistible and salvation is provided for all, but applied only to those who believe (i.e., Molinist Framework preferred or Classical Arminianism), and a Penal Substitutionary
view of the Atonement
Cross-Cultural: The ideal background is third culture or someone who has learned to embrace and celebrate culture through at least one year of cross-cultural ministry experience. We are looking for someone fluent in English and
preferably bilingual. Must be culturally sensitive, adaptable, embrace, and celebrate culture. A broad understanding of cultural nuances and their importance to the communication of spiritual truths is necessary. Able to mobilize groups to reach out to their
- Elder qualities based on 2 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
- A servant-leader and effective communicator
- Ability to build and oversee teams to accomplish the missional purposes
Preaching: An exegetical/expository style made to look easy without being too tedious with clear applications for our lives; carefully guards the pulpit entrusted to him from strange doctrines and worldly thinking; preaches the whole counsel
of God, not for personal agendas, political correctness nor fear of man’s opinions. There will be a need for occasional topical sermons on current/relevant issues or to complement the small group content.
Leader/Equipper : Leads by biblical example and lifestyle, putting God first, then wife, children, & church family; eager to serve with humility; has a teachable spirit, and sees himself as an equal part of the body of Christ under His headship
– first among equals. He has a passion for leadership and will encourage leaders to improve their leadership abilities and motivate the leaders using various tools like the annual leadership summit and/or other similar resources. He will promote the leadership
pipeline of Immanuel. Promote growth and accountability among the Leadership Team and functioning as the “first among equals” on the Elder team.
Evangelism: Has the passion for the lost and is able to lead a person to Christ. He is also able to equip the church to proclaim the Gospel of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone. He models disciple making and trains others as
well to make disciples in obedience our Lord’s command.
Pastoral Style: While we value and expect every pastor to be a good shepherd we see the overall pastoral style to be a rancher. He should be someone who can help achieve the church goal of being outwardly focused and lead us in church growth
Catalyst: Must be a catalyst for a culture of discipleship and missional communities by life modeling and coming alongside our leaders. Promote and evaluate discipling and missional communities for maturity and mission; vision for discipleship
and mission consistently. Ensure that the environments of the Immanuel Church are user-friendly for outsiders and easy to connect with.
