Factors that make our community desirable? Whimsical frogs, created at the annual log carving competition during August’s Muddy Frogwater Festival welcome visitors and residents to the town and many businesses in Milton-Freewater, a caring community of approximately 6600 people located in the northeast corner of Oregon.  Fruit orchards share the fertile land with wheat fields and a growing number of wineries.  Visible to the east are the Blue Mountains which provide a beautiful boundary for the fertile Walla Walla Wine Appellation, as well as offering year-long activities.  A colorful water park offers summer fun for local kids as do several local athletic teams.  A municipal golf course and  adjacent  restaurant, thriving library, and active senior citizen groups entertain many age groups.  Farming, agriculture, viticulture, and supporting businesses provide employment opportunities in the area.  Sykes, an international business call center for many companies, the local school district, and Blue Mountain Community College also employ a number of people.  Just eight miles to the north lies Walla Walla, WA., recently voted one of the “Friendliest Towns in America”.  Walla Walla has also been selected as one of the “100 Best Small Art Towns in America”.  May to December one can attend First Friday Art Walks and view many of the art installations that grace its downtown area, galleries, and wineries.  Walla Walla has become a destination town for wine lovers, boasting more than 100 wineries and 20 or more tasting rooms.  Its Walla Walla Symphony is the longest running symphony west of the Mississippi.  Walla Walla is as “fertile for culture as it is for grapes” with theatre at Walla Walla University in adjacent College Place, WA., Harper Joy Theatre at Whitman College, Walla Walla Community College Theatre, Powerhouse Theatre, and Walla Walla Little Theatre.  A rich musical scene, both downtown with free street performances, as well as Chorales, individual performers, and  many visiting guest lecturers, antique stores, quaint eateries, 4-Star Restaurant, inviting coffee houses, cafes, and bars offer good food and entertainment to a wonderful array of residents, students and visitors.

If it’s big city life you like, Tri-Cities is just an hour to the west and Washington’s second largest city, Spokane, 3 hours north.

Courteous drivers, little traffic, lots of sun in the summer, early springs, late falls, and mostly mild winters contribute to a nearly perfect environment for the approximately 67,000 folks calling Milton-Freewater, Oregon, Walla Walla or College Place, WA “home”.
