Position Overview
  • Oversee the development and execution of music, worship and fine arts programming at KUMC, focusing on the three traditional/blended Sunday morning worship services
  • Support the vision of KUMC through the planning and execution of excellent and diverse worship experiences at each service
  • Recruit, train and support musicians and worship arts leaders in becoming disciples of Christ, and provide opportunities to connect them to small groups within the music ministry
  • Provide leadership for the KUMC Chancel Choir and oversight of other KUMC musical groups
Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop / oversee a design team for traditional services to provide deep and meaningful worship elements that support the weekly message, provide variety in style and creative use of the human senses, and are executed with excellence
  • Lead and direct KUMC Chancel Choir and other musical ensembles with an expectation of musical excellence as a means of developing discipleship in its members and enhancing the theme of worship services.
  • Develop and direct (or provide support to staff or lay directors of) additional musical groups to address the interests and needs of the laity
  • Develop and plan major festival worship events, including Advent and Lenten special programs; assist in planning various worship arts events or special services
  • Provide leadership for the development of additional worship arts programming, such as the fine arts concert series, School of the Arts and other programs and events that encourage community awareness of excellence of programming at KUMC and participation in the life of KUMC
  • Professing Christian
  • Wesleyan background (preferred), ability to work in the context of Methodist doctrine required
  • Music degree required; excellent musical skills and significant experience directing non-professional choirs and working with orchestras, other musical ensembles
  • Extensive experience with proven ability to develop and execute music and worship arts programming in large church setting
  • Proven ability to supervise, develop and mentor staff; also guide and direct laity
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Flexibility regarding work hours as evening and week-end meetings and rehearsals are required
