Bethany Covenant Church Choir Director/ Organist Accompanist


The Choir Director is responsible for recruiting, developing, encouraging, inspiring, and unifying the choir to be of one heart and mind. This role reports to the Director of Worship and Music and is responsible for leading, training and preparing the choir, via regular rehearsals, for its role in leading the congregation into worship, This also involves planning and coordinating any musical accompaniments and soloists. The Director leads the choir, instrumentalists, and at times the congregation in worship during the worship services. The Choir Director works the Director of Worship and Music to coordinate elements of worship that coincide with the message and theme of worship services. This person should be able to work with volunteers of varying skill and experience levels, and be well versed in a broad scope of hymns and spiritual songs. The Director should possess strong musical abilities, have experience in choral conducting, and also possess a musical repertoire that would allow him/her to improvise as occasions may demand.


Job Responsibilities

Work with pastoral staff in planning and preparing for worship services

Lead choir, musicians, and congregation in song/worship during traditional worship service

Coordinate and oversee weekly choir rehearsals

Work with individuals needing additional practice

Recruit, train, and equip choir members and soloists

The Organist/ Accompanist reports to the Director of Worship and Music and is responsible for playing the organ and/or piano during worship services, including the anthem, offertory, congregational hymns and choruses, doxology, postlude, etc. The Organist should have a broad musical background and have the capability of playing a diverse range of music. The person in this position should be able to accompany solo musicians and vocalists, with the ability to improvise when the situation demands.
