Job Description:

We are a vibrant community of faith located in Evanston, IL with approximately 900 members and a strong history of musical excellence.  We are in search of a candidate to strengthen our community worship by serving as the Choir Director, which is a part time position.  Our choir consists of 30-35 members, including four professional section leaders.  The choir sings weekly at the 9am worship service which is a blend of traditional and contemporary styles.  This service offers the opportunity to select a variety of choral anthems in style, culture and time period.  Exciting opportunities exist for special worship services, including a Christmas major work (Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols in 2012), a Good Friday major piece (Dale Wood's Service of Darkness in 2013), and other creative opportunities for the ministry of the choir will be encouraged!


Our ideal candidate will have a mature relationship with Jesus Christ as well as evident relational strengths with people.  The ideal candidate will be a qualified musician with training/experience in directing a choir, will be passionate about developing our choir members to their fullest ability both musically and spiritually, be able to recruit, develop and lead volunteers for our adult choir; as well as plan worship collaboratively with the senior pastor, associate pastor and director of worship and music.


Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Music or a related major is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  We require the ability to rehearse and lead a chancel choir and to relate to people with a variety of choral abilities, from professional to amateur.  Spiritual leadership must be exhibited and the ability to embrace a service of combined classical/traditional and contemporary music is required.  Previous experience in a paid or volunteer position within a church setting is highly desirable.  Proficiency in MS Office Suites and Finale is highly desirable.


This position would average 12 hours per week from September-May and 6 hours per week during the June-July and no hours in August.
