Job Description:

Our Church is prayerfully seeking a Christ centered, high-energy, self-motivated, loving leader to lead our Children's Ministry, birth through fifth grade. The ideal candidate for this full-time position should have at least 5 years of previous experience leading Children's Ministry in a large church, at least a BA degree and a calling to serve children and the adults who work with children. We are seeking a person who has a passion to serve Children and their families and the skill set to take an established program to the next level. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, be a team player, and the ability to recruit, inspire, develop and empower a team of ministry volunteers. The right person must have demonstrated the ability to create the vision for Children’s ministry, recruiting and training volunteer teachers and be a gifted leader dedicated to reaching and discipling children through all the children’s ministries of the church.



  • Manages and oversees the entire Children’s educational ministries (birth through fifth grade), including, but not limited to, the Children’s Sunday School, Sunday night Bible Study, summer ministries with children, seasonal events related to Children’s ministry, including all summer activities, Christmas programs, Easter programs, Performing Arts Camp, Mission trips, Vacation Bible School and others.
  • The Children’s Director/Pastor will coordinate with the staff of the church to partner with parents to develop children into mature disciples of Christ
  • Develop and champion the vision of partnering with parents and ensure the ministries of the church align the mission of the church to make and grow disciples of Christ
  • Develop curriculum and programming for Sunday School, Children’s Worship and small groups and other Children’s ministries
  • Create worship environments (sets/décor) to coordinate with Bible study
  • Develop and lead Sunday program areas: Bible study, drama, music, large groups, small groups, the leaders, and any other volunteers needed
  • Recruit and equip volunteers as small group leaders, music, and drama ministry
  • Provide training and support for Sunday School teachers
  • Oversee appropriate communication and ministry to parents of children as we seek to partner with families.
  • Insure that appropriate safety and security procedures are followed in the department
  • Develop and implement the Children's Ministry Strategic plan
  • Maintain good communication with volunteers and with pastoral team
  • Interact and partner with the Church Schools
  • Attend and participate in regular staff meetings
  • Keep regular office hours

  • Have the ability to enable and empower others to carry out the work of the ministry and be supportive of their efforts
  • Be a self-starter-—someone who is self-motivated and can continue to get the job done, even during difficult times or when doing thankless tasks
  • Possess the ability to relate well to children, Sunday School Leaders, and parents
  • Be supportive of other church staff, parents and volunteers
  • Exhibit a Christ-like attitude in words and actions
  • Must be team-oriented--someone who is able to work with a large team of volunteers
  • Need excellent organization skills, including being able to plan months in advance
  • Must be honest, open and transparent, accepting/nonjudgmental, trustworthy, and truthful
  • Possess excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • A 4-year degree is required
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Children’s Ministry with demonstrable success in developing, building, and growing the ministry
