The Wesleyan Community Church - Detroit, a new church plant in Northwest Detroit, is seeking a salaried part-time Associate/Youth Pastor/Director to lead the current 40 member youth group which has 8 community based adult leaders. Currently meeting for
youth group on Wednesday evenings and Adult Bible study on Thursday evenings, we are a church plant of The Wesleyan Church.
The church shares space with the existing East Michigan Christian Community Development Corporation that has had a big neighborhood impact operating community based programs at The Wesley Community Center. This ministry is designed to bring people into
the building and remove obstacles that prevent people from attending church.
The successful applicant will recruit volunteer staff, and youth, from our ongoing community based outreach programs, such as, summer youth programs, urban-suburban partnership immersions, client choice pantry, monthly grocery distribution, re-sale shop,
computer resource center, medical clinic, gardening and community event hosting.
This position reports to the Lead Pastor and has no staff direct reports.
Successful applicant will have the freedom to develop and present to the Lead Pastor new youth or church initiatives as they work closely together to develop and launch Wesleyan Community Church – Detroit Sunday afternoon worship events.
This position will require developing a weekly youth service, attending the Thursday adult bible study and a Detroit area Wesleyan Church each Sunday morning until the Sunday services begin.
This position can accommodate a bi-vocational pastor/director or it can be full time if applicant has other means of support. The position may have increased responsibility and salary as the church and community center grows.
The successful applicant will be either a licensed minister of the Wesleyan Church (or equivalent from another denomination with a desire to learn about and become licensed in The Wesleyan Church),
a layperson with a sincere desire to become a minister of The Wesleyan Church.
Applicant must have two years of experience directing youth groups, or a youth ministry degree, or at least one year of urban youth work experience is. Many diverse experiences could qualify for this requirement.
Applicant must demonstrate a love for urban-city living, and a heart for under-resourced community issues.
Applicant must be experienced with Microsoft Office, self-motivated and self-reliant.
Applicant must be free from addictions and background must be clear of offenses related to working with children.
Applicant must live in Detroit, or willing to move to Detroit, and be available to work 20 hours per week. Other part-time work or education will be accommodated.
The successful applicant will have excellent people skills, an outgoing personality, and be able to articulately express their calling to our work in an under-served Detroit neighborhood.

$12,000.00 annual salary. Free, secure on-site housing that includes utilities and high speed internet.
