DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY

Mission of Youth Ministry
We are committed to nurturing youth in their Christian faith. Our goal is to provide them with opportunities to grow in God?s grace, to enable them to develop the spiritual and personal resources necessary for life?s journey and to help guide them into a loving relationship with God, self and others.
The role of the Director of Youth Ministry is to develop a relational ministry with Middle and High School youth and Sponsors. The Youth program should provide for spiritual nurture, mentoring and integration into the life of BPC.
1.Support the vision of Session in carrying out Youth Ministry programs.
2.Collaborate with the Youth Ministry Elders and the Youth Committee to develop and implement goals for Youth Ministry that align with the theology, values, and mission of BPC.
3.Partner with the Elders to Youth Ministry to equip the Youth Ministry team members for meaningful ministry service.
4.Work with the Coordinator of Youth Ministry, Associate Pastor, and Elders to plan, organize and lead the ongoing middle and high school youth programs including weekly meetings on Sunday evenings.
5.Minister to the needs of students in a setting of friendship and caring.
i.Be available to youth in times of personal crisis or other emergency.
ii.Be available to meet informally with youth and sponsors.
6.Supervise and plan with the Youth Coordinator the development and management of the middle school and high school program.
7.Coordinate, lead, and participate in the two major events:
Mexico home building (week before Easter) and River Rafting (Summer)
8.Coordinate, lead, and participate in youth outreach programs, retreats, camps, etc.
9.Lead the summer SALT (Summer Action Leadership Team) to provide education, guidance and mentoring for up to four high school summer interns annually.
10.Participate as a leader in confirmation classes.
11.Manage the Youth program budget.
12.Find and mentor youth sponsors, volunteers, parents for the Youth program.
13.Attend weekly planning and collaboration meetings with the Associate Pastor and Coordinator to Youth.
14.Attend monthly Youth Committee meetings and weekly staff meetings.
15.Other duties as assigned by the Associate Pastor.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1.Proven relevant Youth Ministry leadership experience in a church.
2.The ability to build a loving relationship with youth.
3.Leadership and expertise in program development.
4.The ability to work independently as well as part of a ministry team.
5.Comfortable and successful in using teamwork to accomplish goals.

2.A sense of calling to the education and spiritual development of youth.
3.A strong commitment to own spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being.
4.A strong commitment to servant leadership
1.Bachelor's Degree in related field.
2.Scriptural knowledge and theological competency; must adhere to PC(USA) teaching and theology.
3.Experience in administration including group leadership, team building, and the recruitment, training and support of volunteers.
Accountability and Evaluation:
1.Reports to the Associate Pastor
2.Supervises a part-time Coordinator to Youth.
3.Staff to the Youth Ministry Committee
4.Performance reviewed by Associate Pastor following first 90 days and annually thereafter
Hours: 30-40 hours/week including Sundays. Competitive salary is offered.
Or 25 hours/week (no benefits). Seminary students will be considered.
Starting date: Preferably Jan 2, 2009.
