The Position
The Youth and Family Life Pastor is a full-time pastor who is responsible for developing, organizing and leading a ministry that reaches and develops youth, young adults and young families so that they become Disciple Makers and become more Christlike.
He/She will work with the Senior Pastor, other part-time staff and volunteers to promote the spiritual formation of youth and young families. This new staff person will, through their spiritual gifts, share their knowledge and help equip staff and laity so that all the work will be spread among the church family. Our Church’s mission and vision statements are: “First Christian Church’s mission is to make disciples revealing God’s unconditional love to all people through the power of the Holy Spirit,” and, “Caring, Connecting and Serving the Community with the love of Christ”. We hope to become a transformed congregation equipped for every good work so that we can strive to do our part in fulfilling the great Commission, and to equip new believers for the mission of the ‘Church’.”
This is a newly created position which will require a creative, motivated, and innovative individual. The primary emphasis will be on developing and establishing a Youth program. When this is established and working satisfactorily, the responsibilities will be expanded to include a Family Life Ministry program.

Personal and Professional Qualifications
Knows Christ as Lord and Savior
Biblical teaching committed to the authority of scripture
Strong Effective Communicator
Understands the importance of Youth and Family Life Ministry
Ordination preferred, but not required; College degree required, an MDiv or a degree in a related area desired
Strong volunteer recruiter and team builder
Able to fill pulpit when needed
Enthusiastic about ministry call
Disciples of Christ background preferred but not required
Some musical ability is highly desirable

Responsibilities: Youth and Family Life Pastor
Initially the responsibilities will include the following areas:
Aid in the development and implementation of the Church’s vision in coordination with the Senior Pastor, staff, Elders, and Church Board
Aid in the development of goals for Youth Ministry with Education and youth strategic planning teams
Target ministry groups under 35 years of age
Encourage youth involvement in outreach programs, music, drama, and worship services
Identify, recruit and train persons to work in Youth Ministry
Provide appropriate counseling and care for youth
Once the Youth Program is established and operating smoothly, the responsibilities will be expanded to include the following:
Relate the context of the Christian Faith to families and their children
Teach in Sunday school or classes when it does not conflict with other duties
Direct and implement a program of outreach/evangelism to families in our community
Be available to counsel families experiencing challenges with their children and how Christ and his Word address those challenges
Facilitate and equip others to lead family and parenting programs
Communicate regularly with staff members
