Reports to: Executive Director of Worship and Arts


Directly Supervises: N/A

Status: Full time

Position Summary


The Director of Music and Production will provide leadership and oversight in the areas of music and production elements for St. James UMC. The director will maintain primary responsibility over the preparation and execution of all music and production elements of worship services and the recruitment, equipping and leadership of volunteers within the music and production areas. Additionally, the director will also work closely with the Executive Director of Worship and Arts to effectively interact with ministry leaders, volunteers, and staff members of St. James UMC to define and implement ministry objectives. These efforts will be in line to support the mission of the church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.


Required Functions


  • Assist the Executive Director of Worship in developing ministries and a culture that provides for and encourages spiritual growth through Passionate Worship
  • Cultivate an environment that attracts volunteers to be part of the body of Christ within music and production ministries
  • Assist the Executive Director of Worship in creating and communicating executable vision for the music and production ministries
  • Recruit qualified adult and student volunteers to assist with implementing strategies and tactics to accomplish the vision
  • Devote your personal and professional life to being an example of what it means to follow Jesus Christ, live a life of worship and walk in His grace


Other Responsibilities


  • Regular participation in the weekly creative team, Worship Arts staff mtg and the staff chapel
  • Shared leadership in all services as a worship leader and in directing of band, choir and other worship personnel involved in worship leading as required
  • Assist weekly in planning and executing all weekly and seasonal worship services and special events
  • Monthly development, contact and coordination with new and existing bands to participate in Younite and assisting in setup and execution of the event
  • Assist the Executive Director of Worship and Arts to recruit and effectually lead teams of volunteers to execute vision for all ministries
  • Manage and oversee the Producers, all production and logistical planning elements required for worship execution
  • Oversee all licensure and copyright requirements
  • Assist the Executive Director of Worship in establishing ministry goals, objectives and budgets
  • Provide support to Executive Director of Worship and Arts in implementing vision and the strategies and tactics needed to accomplish the vision set forth
  • Develop and mentor volunteers in Worship and Arts ministries
  • Acquire or produce click tracks and loops as necessary for use in worship using Mac software based platforms


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong commitment to the Christian faith and to the theology of the United Methodist Church; familiarity with the United Methodist Church structure, mission opportunities, and resources is helpful
  • Willing to adhere to the St. James UMC Staff Policies and Statement of Ethics, to be loyal to the Senior Pastor and church leadership, and to be faithful to St. James UMC vision, values and mission
  • Able to pray, teach and play well with others


Physical Requirements


  • Physical requirements include prolonged sitting and prolonged viewing of computer monitor, standing for an hour or more at a time, lifting, moving and setup of equipment weighing 50 lbs
