Position Reports to: Pastor for Children and Family Life
Position Works with: Family Life Team including the Grade School and Student Ministries
The Minister to Preschoolers is an integral part of the Family Life (FL) Team and will help champion Columbia’s vision of church-home partnership for the discipleship of children. The position will include oversight of integrated weekday and weekend programming
serving over 450 young children and their families. The Minister to Preschoolers position bridges Columbia’s church and school ministries, bringing the best of both theology and early childhood education to our infants through kindergartners and their families.
The position will include direct management responsibilities for a Director of Preschool Ministries, who is part of the Child Development Center director team, four other Child Development Center director team members, and a childcare coordinator who give
oversight to 40-plus employees and 70-plus lay leaders. Areas of responsibility include:
- Oversight of the ministry programs for birth through kindergarten age children and their families which partners with parents to connect them and their young children with Christ. These programs currently include Sunday morning classes, Wednesday night
large and small group events, Columbia’s Faith Milestones, special events geared toward families and children, and provision of childcare essential to the success of other church events. The position will involve fostering a ministry that provides an enjoyable
place of service for lay leaders, a warm and inviting atmosphere for parents of preschoolers, and a safe and creative learning environment for children.
- Oversight of the Child Development Center (CDC), a weekday preschool program currently serving 325 children from 18 months to 5 years, which is considered a strategic entry point for children and their families into the life of Columbia. The Minister to
Preschoolers, along with the CDC Director Team, creates and implements a program that continually conveys to parents Columbia’s vision for developing children both spiritually and educationally while ensuring the use of early childhood education best practices.
- Partnering with and supporting other ministry areas and church-supported activities impacting the preschool population and their families, including Worship Music and Arts, Missions, Adult Discipleship, Congregational Care, Language Congregations, and CrossRoads.
