GOLDEN HILLS COMMUNITY CHURCH is searching for the right Pastor to lead our High School ministry.   The ideal candidate will have a heart for God and ministry, a consistent walk with the Lord, experience with the administration of a small group system, and a minimum of a BA in a ministry related major.

High School Pastor

Job Description


I. Purpose


The High School Pastor will grow and develop a ministry that helps students “glorify God by making disciples who will impact every area of the world for Christ.”  He will provide leadership through oversight, development, implementation and administration of a comprehensive ministry to ninth through twelfth grade students.


II. Ministry Process


The High School Pastor will develop a ministry that is aligned with the ministry process of the larger church.  Students, staff, and others will be shepherded to Worship, Grow, and Serve in the context of Christian Community.



lll.  Responsibilities 

A. Investigation and Planning

     Investigate the needs of high school students and effective methods to reach and minister to students at GHCC and in East Contra Costa County.

     Develop and implement a ministry vision and plans with annual goals and practical strategies to meet students’ needs, including but not limited to regular small group meetings, mission opportunities, and retreats and events.


B.  Leadership Development

      Recruit, equip and oversee lay leaders.

     Integrate the GHCC discipleship process into the training and leadership plan.

     Implement and maintain all areas of student leadership.


C. Pastoral Care

     Participate in and/or supervise the counseling and care for the spiritual needs of students and parents as    appropriate.

     Provide primary “Upfront” communication and teaching on Thursdays and Sunday Mornings

     Perform weddings, funerals, baptisms, communion, etc.


D. Worship

     Coordinate and maintain the musical worship component of the High School ministry.


E. Growth and Discipleship

      Continue to emphasize and develop Christian Community and biblical application through an ongoing small group ministry



F. Service and Outreach


      Plan and oversee High School student missions efforts in conjunction with the Global Outreach department.

      Coordinate, plan, and implement various service opportunities for High School students within the High School ministry,the church, and the community.

      Create and model a culture of outreach to high school students through individual evangelism and group outreach opportunities.


E. Ministry to Parents

      Partnering cooperatively with Children’s and Adult ministries in equipping parents to participate in the discipleship process of their students. Duties may include hosting quarterly parent meetings, maintaining ongoing communication with parents, and helping  provide hands-on training for discipling teenagers in today's culture.



G. Administration

      Prepare and administrate an annual High School Ministry budget based on approved goals.

      Solve problems, evaluate, and develop systems that facilitate strategy implementation.

      Participate in Staff Meetings.

      Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s).



III. Reporting


A.   This position reports to the Pastor of Discipleship and Training. 


B.   This position shares supervision of the Student Ministry secretary and directly supervises the High School Ministry Intern(s).


C.   This position works cooperatively with the Middle School Pastor and the Young Adult (College Age) Pastor.



IV. Conclusion


         All ministry personnel of Golden Hills Community Church are called to live their lives individually, familially, and ecclessiastically in a manner glorifying to Christ and pleasing to God (see Ministerial Code of Ethics and Expectations of Pastors, Directors and Ministry Leaders).
