EXECUTIVE PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
To lead and oversee the staff, ministries and operations of the Church at Burke Community Church so we fulfill our vision of reaching non-Christians and producing mature disciples of Jesus Christ.
THIS LEADER REPORTS TO
The Senior Pastor.
RELATION TO THE SENIOR PASTOR
The Executive Pastor will maintain a close relationship with the Senior Pastor, seeking to guide and grow the staff and the church. In the absence of the Senior Pastor, the Executive Pastor will function as the primary leader, being responsible for staff,
staff meetings, elder council meetings, business meetings, and the general oversight of the whole ministry.
WHO THIS LEADER WORKS CLOSELY WITH
All pastoral and director level staff.
WHO REPORTS TO THIS LEADER
All pastoral (except for the Worship Pastor) and director level staff. Support staff report directly to their respective pastor/director.
Lead, coach, and equip the staff to carry out the vision, values, and strategies of Burke Community Church.
Lead and oversee all the ministries in the church in partnership with the Senior Pastor and the pastoral leadership team so that all the ministries will thrive and be aligned with our vision, values, and strategies.
Lead and oversee ministry and organizational operations (e.g. facilities, finances, administration, IT, etc.). Design internal systems and infrastructures which are strategic, effective, and efficient.
Oversee the New Member Process. Duties will include teaching the new members class (viz., Discover Burke), coordinating elder interviews for membership candidates, overseeing established systems to move people from being nominal attendees to engaged and
Provide care for the church through limited counseling, following up special needs, engaging in biblical principles of conflict resolution, meeting with people who need input and guidance, and exercising biblical church discipline when appropriate.
- Is in full agreement with the doctrinal statement and vision foci of Burke Community Church.
- Is in full agreement with primary and secondary doctrinal distinctions.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- College degree
- Master’s degree with a theological emphasis
- Ordained minister of the gospel from a viable evangelical organization.
- Proven experience in this role within a church of at least 1,000, or commensurate experience in an organization (business, military, not-for-profit) of similar size.

This is a full-time position with full benefits. Pay will reflect the standard of living in Fairfax County, Virginia.
