Job Description:
POSITION – Associate Pastor – Care Ministries MINISTRY ROLE: The Associate Pastor of Care Ministries is a leader/developer who effectively organizes and empowers the Care Ministries of Harvest; providing direction, oversight, and integration to accomplish Harvest’s ministry purpose of Reaching Up, Reaching In and Reaching Out. This full-time position is personally responsible for reaching out and connecting with individuals who are hurting both physically and spiritually, as well as supervising and developing lay members of Harvest to care for others in their time of need. MINISTRY OVERSIGHT WITH ACTIVE PARTICIPATION: • Visitation – First Time Visitors • Visitation – Missing In Action • Spiritual Decision Follow-up • Hospital Visitation • Homebound/Widow/Nursing Home Ministry • Bereavement Ministry MINISTRY OVERSIGHT WITH LIMITED PARTICIPATION: • PADS (ministry to homeless once per week, October-April) • Women in Need of Care (WINC) • Food Pantry (once per month) • Care Team (provides meals and various assistance to congregation members in need) PARTICIPATION AS NEEDED: • Counseling • Teaching / Discipleship REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor on spiritual issues. Executive Director on organizational and administrative issues. QUALIFICATIONS: SPIRITUAL • Consistently and regularly shares his Faith boldly with those who are lost. • Be a man of God who has ordered his life in compliance with the teaching of Scripture and the example of our Lord. • Spiritually mature and affirmed as a pastor. (ordination not required) • Exhibit a heart of worship, service to others, an active prayer life, and knowledge of the Bible. • Bachelor’s degree and Biblical training. • Be in agreement with the ministry philosophy of Harvest Baptist Church. PERSONAL & FAMILY • Vibrant, growing relationship with Jesus Christ demonstrated in part by a commitment to personal times of prayer, worship, meditation, and Bible study. • A strong marriage and family life with full support of his wife, providing a visible testimony to the Harvest family. • Able to stay disciplined and diligent with both personal and professional time management; maintaining a balance between home and work life and being the spiritual leader to his spouse and children. • Participate actively in the life of the church by attending Sunday services, prayer meetings, other special events, and supporting and encouraging the other ministries of Harvest. INTERPERSONAL • Has a love and passion for People. • Committed to long-term ministries. • A proven Shepherd of others. • Exceptional communication and organizational skills with adults of all ages and situations. • A passion for teambuilding through leadership, training, administration and discipleship. • Successful track record of recruiting, training and developing adult volunteer staff. • Willingness to delegate responsibilities to others to expand the impact of the Care Ministry. • Competency in counseling, utilizing the principles in God’s Word. • Loyalty to other staff and a commitment to team playing and building. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: A. VISION CASTING AND PLANNING • Provide strategic direction and oversight of all Care Ministries at Harvest. • Cast vision for the various Care Ministries in away that encourages them to complement one another and achieve synergy and effectiveness. • Recruit, train and provide leadership to Care Ministry directors, leaders and volunteers. • Develop ongoing support of new volunteers assisting in all Care Ministries. • Prepare and provide oversight of the annual Care Ministries budget. B. NURTURING & ENCOURAGING • Care for, motivate, meet with and oversee various leaders and their spouses so they can in turn shepherd, nurture, and encourage those they are entrusted to care for. • Pray for and provide competent spiritual care to the volunteer leadership of the Care Ministry. C. SHEPHERDING • Coordinate and perform consistent hospital visitation, working in conjunction with other staff and volunteers. • Perform homebound and nursing home visitation in a consistent manner, working in conjunction with other staff and volunteers. • Coordinate and perform weekly visitation to new visitors to Harvest through the Harvesting Homes ministry. • Coordinate and perform visitation to members and attendees of Harvest currently “Missing In Action” (MIA). • Minister to the bereaved by providing in-home and funeral home visitation. • Work with the Bereavement Ministry Team to arrange for the delivery of meals, flowers and provide other assistance as needed. • Conduct funerals of Harvest members or attendees and their families as requested. • Provide emergency counseling for members or attendees of Harvest and their immediate families as needed • Attend church Leadership Board meetings as requested. D. TEAMWORK • Maintain an effective working relationship with all staff. • Hold regular office hours and assist with other ministry needs as requested. • Attend all staff functions as assigned by Senior Pastor or Executive Directors including weekly staff meetings, specified pastoral prayer times, and staff retreats. • Fulfill other pastoral duties as required (i.e. weddings, funerals, counseling, teaching, preaching, visitations, baptism, communion, etc.) CONTACT INFORMATION: Brian Wright – Search Committee Chairman Harvest Baptist Church • 5315 Douglas Rd • Oswego, IL 60543 (630) 554-3858 • •
