This church of approximately 1500 (weekend attendance) is well established, yet has experienced a dynamic period of growth and reinvention, with an eye for continuing to grow into the future. Strong & stable leadership have a vision focused on reaching young families in the community. For a leader experienced in a similar size church, this is a tremendous opportunity.

Job Description

The Associate Pastor of Children’s Ministry serves as a spiritual leader in the church and shall provide leadership, direction, and administration of the children’s department.  This pastor is responsible for developing the children’s program to promote spiritual growth in children, families and those that serve in the ministry and church.  A strong emphasis is required in recruiting and coordinating those that serve as volunteers to participate in the department.  The pastor will strategically develop the mission and culture of the children’s department. The Children’s Pastor will provide leadership for nursery through fourth grade. This pastor will also perform general duties as part of the pastoral staff of Vancouver First Church of God.



The Children’s Pastor will contribute to the ministry of Vancouver First Church of God through expertise and in meeting or exceeding performance objectives for the following major job functions:


LEADERSHIP OF CHILDREN’S MINISTRY:  The Pastor shall provide leadership and spiritual direction for the children’s department. The Pastor will provide spiritual leadership that gives depth to the spiritual growth of children, families and those that serve as volunteers.  He/she shall ensure that each experience meets with the highest standards of respect for the participants involved and aligns with the overall vision of the church.


OVERSIGHT OF EVENTS:  The Pastor shall work with other staff pastors, administrative personnel and elected leaders to design and conduct events that are relevant to the congregational communities being served, including but not limited to, VBS-Track Camp, Harvest Party and local service events within our community. The Pastor will enlist, train, and coordinate all volunteers for outreach events.


OVERSIGHT OF PROGRAMS:  The Pastor shall provide leadership and creative direction of all educational and worship programs for Children’s Department.  He/she will create programs for the development and spiritual growth for families of the church community. The Pastor will also work with King’s Way Christian School to provide assistance and spiritual growth within the ministry.


RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT:  The Pastor will provide and develop healthy relationships with families and students or kids in which she leads and serves.  The Pastor will build a culture of trust, love and appreciation for families and those that serve within the ministry.


OTHER DUTIES:  The Associate Pastor will serve the needs of the congregation through spiritual development and perform general pastoral and congregational duties including visitation, counseling, prayer, counseling, Pastor of the Day (POD), and Pastor of the Weekend (POW) and will provide additional support to the church body as needed. The Pastor will oversee the stewardship of the Children’s Budget. The Pastor will perform additional duties and responsibilities as required including, but not limited to, programs, services, events, staff meetings, and other related tasks.



Demonstrated skills:  A personal relationship with Christ and unquestioned integrity.  A deep respect and care for the congregation and leaders of the Vancouver First Church of God.  The Pastor needs to have a passion and calling for Children and families.  He/She must have a creative ability to develop an engaging program for the spiritual development and growth of children.

Ability to:   Effectively manage personal time to maintain a strong balance between family, church and a personal walk with God.  Convey a sincere love and compassion for the community of believers and have a heart or the lost.  Ability to work as part of a pastoral and administrative team, including the ability to communicate and build teams that minister to the church body and the community at large.



Education:  Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree encouraged but not required.

Experience:  5 years minimum as a Children’s Pastor, or part of Family Pastor.

Professional Certification:  Licensed minister encouraged but not required.
