Job Description:




The Director of Student Ministries will lead the staff, volunteers and students of the Student Ministries of Woodmen Valley Chapel (WVC) toward the fulfillment of WVC’s vision, as well as direct the staff, programs, vision and ministry of High School Ministries. This person will manage and supervise all Student Ministries staff. He/she will oversee and be accountable for all programs and activities, as well as be strategic in communicating the vision for the complete scope and ministry of Middle and High School. This person should have a heart for family-based ministry and for seeing students discover and grow in their gifts and strengths to serve the larger body of Christ. He/she will contribute toward a unified focus for Student Ministries in cooperation with Children’s, Switch56 and Young Adult Ministries, in order to strategically identify and address the needs of the next generation. This person will be the Student Ministries representative of WVC. This full-time position reports to the Director of the Office of the Senior Pastor.





A.      Student Ministries

  1. Directs, develops and empowers Student Ministries’ staff in each of their specific areas of responsibility
  2. Leads weekly Student Ministries staff meeting, giving overall leadership to all Student Ministries staff
  3. Develops and oversees policies and procedures for an effective student ministry
  4. Leads the Teaching Team for Student Ministries and is an active teacher within the Student Ministries Community
  5. Gives oversight and wisdom to the direction of Student Ministries to ensure strong biblical teaching and authentic worship
  6. Develops and implements a strategy to enhance community with Student Ministries so that every student, from 7th through 12th grade, is part of a small group
  7. Develops and gives oversight to a strategy for continuing to identify the specific needs of both middle school and high school students and how Student Ministries can best meet these needs
  8. Develops and implements a strategy to ensure the Student Ministries Community is effectively reaching out and impacting their community in Colorado Springs
  9. Works closely with Children’s and Switch56 Ministries to ensure smooth transition of students entering Middle School
  10. Works closely with the Young Adults Ministries to ensure High School Students have a community in which to be involved through college or careers
  11. Works with other ministry departments to integrate ministry opportunities for families
  12. Manages and/or provides oversight of administrative needs of Student Ministries (i.e., budget, staff vacation, Student Ministries’ staff and events calendars, etc.)
  13. Provides counsel and care to students and families, as needed
  14. Participates in the Pastor on Call (POC) Ministry and serves his/her rotation on a quarterly basis; participates and serves at weekend services in pastoral/counselor capacity; conducts hospital visits, funerals and weddings, as needed
  15. Models the core values of WVC

B.       High School Ministries

  1. Casts vision for and directs staff and programs of High School Ministries (to include leadership programs, discipleship/small groups, mission trips, camps, retreats, etc.)
  2. Teaches at weekly student services and guides teaching schedule (topics/dates)
  3. Oversees Ministry Partner recruiting, development and training for High School Ministries

C.       Other responsibilities as requested





A.  Education/Experience 

  1. Strong, dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ demonstrated through regular prayer, Bible study and worship attendance
  2. A degree in Biblical  Studies or Christian or Youth Ministry preferred
  3. Significant experience on a large church staff with strong background (7 years) leading student ministries
  4. Strategic thinker with the ability to manage, mobilize and motivate people
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  6. Demonstrates godly character through commitment to growth, development and community; has ability to demonstrate a servant’s heart and be a team player
  7. Demonstrates a strong ability to implement change
  8. A healthy family life. If married, the spouse must be a believer and supportive of the ministry, as well as involved at WVC. It is desirable that this individual has never been divorced. If single, this individual will display and uphold high moral and biblical standards in his/her interpersonal relationships.
  9. A member of WVC who supports its vision and values, as well as contributes time and tithes

B. Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to teach and articulate clearly and confidently
  2. Ability to attend weekend services and evening activities throughout the week
  3. Endurance to maintain a rigorous schedule of activities, as well as keep up with and relate well to middle and high school students
  4. Occasional lifting
