Position Description
Full Time Position: Music Director (Organist/Choirmaster/Music Administration)

Supervisor: Senior Pastor (Rev. Steve McElroy)
Purpose: Plan and implement the Music Ministry of CUMC
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. The Church Services
1. Weekly communication and cooperation with the ministers in planning, coordinating, and implementing all services and programs of the church.
2. Selecting, learning, and develo n artistic interpretation of choral music for all services.
3. Directing the musical portions of the worship services.
B. Organist
1. Plan, select, and practice music suitable for worship and special services such as weddings and funerals.
2. Accompany all soloists, ensemble groups, and soloists during rehearsal and worship.
C. Choirmaster
1. Plan and select choral music for all choirs: Children, handbells, and adults.
2. Search music of many publishers for new music and select music with suitable texts and musically appropriate to meet particular needs of the liturgical year.
3. When needed, arrange music to meet the needs of all choirs and soloists.
4. Arrange music and direct all instrumental soloists.
5. Plan and conduct all choir rehearsals
D. Music Administration
1. Supervision and mentorship of other music staff (currently Minister of Worship Arts and Contemporary music)
2. Communication and visitation of current members along with sick and prospective choir members.
3. Sort and file all music, maintain choir rosters.
4. Preparations and clean-up of music, instruments, chairs, music stands,
hymnals, etc. that have been used during the service or program. (Including on occasion moving risers, organ, piano and other items)
5. Be responsible for maintenance on all musical equipment including organ, all pianos, chimes, etc.
6. Be responsible for preparation of publicity and communications and correspondence regarding the music programs.
E. Miscellaneous
1. At all times, strive to live by Christian ideals in personal life and high ethical standards in the church music profession.
2. Coordinate music activities with other groups in the church by attending various meetings pertinent to music ministry.
3. Update skills and keep abreast of current trends in church music and worship by attending and participating in workshops, master classes, convocations, and concerts.
4. Arrange and coordinate social activities of specified choirs.
