Position Description

Title: Senior Pastor

Reporting Relationship: The SP will report to and serve as a member of the Elder Board. The Executive Pastor, Campus Pastors and Partnerships Pastor will report to the Senior Pastor.

Function: At the Holy Spirit’s leading, the Senior Pastor will provide spiritual and visionary leadership for all of Ridge Point Ministries (i.e. multiple campuses and partnerships). The Senior Pastor will embrace the mission of Ridge Point ministries by strongly communicating Christ’s commission to make disciples. Will coach, guide and direct the campus ministries and partnerships to ensure opportunities for engagement and service in West MI and around the World. Will form and build strong relationships with strategic partners outside the ministry.

Through preaching God’s Word from the pulpit, spiritually mentoring staff, equipping the body to develop a deep, authentic personal relationship with Christ, helps believers recognize and develop their spiritual gifts, disciples believers to disciple others and is used by God to intentionally lead lost people to full life in Jesus Christ.


Provide Spiritual Leadership

•The SP will assess the present state, envision the future state within the framework of Jesus’ vision for Ridge Point as given to the Elders, and determine the best means to move from one to the other.
•Link vision and performance, organizing people, time, emotion and resources so that vision “happens”.
•Examine leadership and organizational needs, analyzing gaps and clashes; implement changes to best use resources. Develop a common understanding of organizational structure and lines of authority between elder board, executive pastor, campus pastor, team leaders, and ministry teams, rebuilding infrastructure as needed, training on various functions and duties, and setting appropriate boundaries
•Mentor staff members for spiritual growth
•Equip members for the body and staff to make disciples, encouraging use of each member’s spiritual gifts
•Preaching responsibility at all ministry campuses (approximately 25/yr)
•Model the mission of Ridge Point by personally building relationships with unbelieving individuals and demonstrating a passion to lead them to full life in Jesus Christ
•Represent Ridge Point in the community
•Ensure proactive leadership of staff and motivate them to successfully achieve Ridge Point’s strategic goals
•Ensure the development of staff, forming a team devoted to Ridge Point’s mission
•Develop a staff that oversees and empowers volunteers
•Ensure proactive leadership of staff and motivate them to successfully achieve Ridge Point’s strategic goals
•Communicate Ridge Point’s identity and mission resulting in renewed commitment of attendees’ resources in support of commonly held vision; this includes reinforcing the ministry of the people
•Equip and empower staff based on Ephesians 4:11-13


•A relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior that results in a life lived in obedience to the will of God as described in the Bible. Someone who displays a spiritual presence; a prayer warrior
•Fulfillment of the Biblical qualification of Elder
•Responsible self-management that reveals genuine servant-hood, faith-centeredness, and spiritual stability; willing to be accountable to Elder Board
•Past participation in accountability relationship and willingness to develop similar relationship(s) locally
•Possesses the spiritual gifts of leadership, evangelism, shepherding, discipleship, teaching and discernment
•Visionary servant leader. Ability to sense local cultural change maximizing Ridge Point’s evangelism impact
•Beliefs consistent with Ridge Point??s “Statement of Belief”
•Effective communicator
•Innovative; risk taker
•Maintains a healthy sense of humor
•Demonstrated willingness to continue learning; teachable

•Demonstrates dynamic Biblical preaching and teaching (led by the Holy Spirit)
•Successful leadership of a church of approximately 600 or more members for a minimum of five years; strong organizational leader
•M.Div. preferred, from a school teaching reformed theology. Ordination preferred, from a denomination consistent with a reformed theology
•Skilled in conflict resolution management (intentionally faces conflict)
•Proven ability to develop, lead and motivate strong teams in a multi-staff context and encourage and empower volunteers
•Understands and appreciates the use of the arts, technology and a culturally relevant approach in ministry for the maximum local cultural impact
•Successful in leading the development and implementation of strategic plans
•Proven ability in financial leadership of the church and successful capital development
