Director of Children’s Ministries Job Description



Title:               Director of Children’s Ministries

Reports To:    Senior Pastor

Purpose.         Lead an already established children’s ministry to new heights, reflected by growing faith, increasing demonstrable biblical knowledge, and deepening spiritual sensitivity/maturity in children from birth through 5th grade.  Develop volunteer base into a deeply committed, enthusiastic group that eagerly pours applicable spiritual truth into children, so that those children are able to transform their centers of influence for Christ, even at a young age.


Personal Attributes:  An authentic and passionate Christian walk, dedicated to personal Christian growth, with a burning eagerness to lead young children (birth through 5th grade) by word and example toward transformational spiritual growth that impacts their community and the world.  This includes:


  • Passion for people and reaching the lost for Christ
  • Strong affinity for children’s ministries.
  • Servant-leadership, exemplifying the humility and attitude of Christ
  • Consistent personal habits of prayer, Bible study/meditation, and giving.
  • Dedication to his/her family, exhibiting wisdom in balancing family and ministry.
  • Participation in consistent spiritual accountability with other godly believers.



  • Effective communicator, motivator, team builder and leader/equipper with a servant-leader’s heart.
  • Competency to personally shepherd children, along with ability to lead adult volunteer leaders.

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, biblical studies, or equivalent appropriate field of study.


Performance Areas:

  1. PreZone, TotZone, KidZone…          Support the vision of Chapel Pointe by providing strategic and hands-on leadership for weekend elementary ministries.  Continually develop and equip a ministry team to oversee all ministries related to this life-stage with a strong personal presence with them in the ministry. S/he must be a self-described people developer, both in discovering/leading the ministry team and in the way s/he leads ministry to children and their families.

-          Communicating vision, mission, and direction for children ministries

-          Oversee all programming and ministry for children ages birth – 5th grade, including Sunday mornings, Awana, summer programming, special events, etc.

-          Choose, prepare, and disseminate curriculum for each program and age level.

-          Create environments, activities and programming for each age group that will facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth, beginning with “crawlers.”

-          Recruit, train, schedule and lead teams of volunteers.

-          Recruit, train, schedule and lead teams of volunteers.


  1. Provide Biblical counsel

-          Supporting the family using the spiritual gift of exhortation

-          Develop and maintain strategy for reaching and assimilating new children and families.

-          Plan and oversee special events, such as baby dedications, VBS, KidZone Blitz, etc.

-          Develop and implement tools for children to use at home in conjunction with parents that move the child, and the family unit, toward spiritual unity and maturity, coordinating thrust and material with the other pastors.
