Job Description:



Discipleship Director (Exempt)


Reporting Relationship:

Your immediate supervisor is the Senior Pastor of PEACE church

Reports to Staff Parish Relations Team as requested


Overview of Major Responsibilities:

Envision, organize and implement a quality Discipleship program for PEACE church. This includes leading, staffing, directing, and organizing a growing vital Discipleship ministry which transforms people into fully submitted followers of Christ.


Specific Responsibilities:



            Promote the mission of the church through discipleship ministries

            Develop, implement and evaluate ministry goals related to discipleship program (every 6 months)

Attend continuing education events related to this position (at least 1 per year)

Develop and maintain a personal growth plan



            Multiply our discipleship ministry by regularly recruiting, training and supervising servant leadership

            Lead through a team-based ministry approach

            Involve as many talented, gifted persons as possible in all areas of the discipleship ministry

            Provide spiritual and skill development for all discipleship teams



Oversee all teams related to discipleship ministry including Adult Education (LifeGroups, Covenant Groups, Short Term Classes and On-Going Classes, Men’s Ministry); Youth Ministry; Children’s Ministry; and Administration (Leadership Development, Budget, Communication, and Curriculum)



            Create, implement and manage a Discipleship Pathway that grows more and deeper disciples for Peace Church

            Plan and coordinate all Discipleship Programs and events with other ministries of church



Possess a strong faith in Christ and a clear calling to discipleship ministry

Be a member that models standards and expectations of leadership within PEACE church including a personal devotional life, worship attendance, tithing, serving/witnessing, small group participation, and a dedication to personal development and a healthy lifestyle



Have a deep sense of integrity, a positive attitude, and be spiritually mature and growing

Demonstrate leadership and teaching ability and express strong relational skills

Have ability to develop teams and apprentice leaders

Have a thorough understanding of Wesleyan Discipleship and a clear understanding on how to make it culturally relevant to Peace Church

Be creative, innovative and a team player


Education and Experience:

            Bachelor’s degree (in Discipleship, Christian Ed or Spiritual Formation ministries or related field preferable)

            3+ years experience in leading a growing and transformative discipleship ministry in a local church



Attend weekly PEACE staff meeting

Attend weekly Program Development meeting

Attend monthly Ad Council meeting

Attend other meetings connected to Discipleship Ministries as needed

Attend other staff functions such as retreats, worship, etc. as requested


Understandings of the Job:

The job description is subject to review and change especially as the program grows

Light clerical and administrative support is available

This position is considered probationary for 90 days after which the position may be terminated by either party upon provided a thirty day notice in writing of the desire to terminate services
