The Senior Pastor’s primary responsibility, with the elders, is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. He shall be faithful in the exposition of Scripture so that the congregation may grow in their understanding and in the application of the Word of God in their lives. He shall provide spiritual leadership through preaching/teaching; working with the Elder Board in establishing the vision for the church; delegating through the Associate Pastor(s) to provide general personnel, financial and facilities oversight; and partnering with the lay leadership in the shepherding of the people. (Ephesians 4:11-14; Acts 20:28).
The Senior Pastor must have the qualities of an overseer outlined in
1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4 and Acts 6:4.
It is strongly preferred that he has a Master of Divinity Degree, or equivalent, or a Masters of Arts degree from an evangelical seminary while pursuing an MDiv.
He should have a minimum of 7 years ministry experience and it is preferred that he has at least 4 years leading a staff team in pastoral ministry.
He should have a demonstrated ability:
To accurately interpret the scriptures (exegesis) and effectively preach and teach Biblical truths.
To work with an existing leadership team within the established philosophy of ministry to achieve the stated goals of a church.
