Children's Ministries Assistant Early Childhood Director

Summary of Position:

The Children’s Ministries Assistant Early Childhood Director works with the Director of Children’s Ministries to coordinate both weekend and midweek programming for early childhood. This job includes oversight of the Early Childhood Weekend Coordinator, Early Childhood Midweek Coordinator, weekend volunteer coordinators, division leaders, large group teaching, and worship. He/she, in conjunction with the Director of Children’s Ministries, will provide direction, training and support for all Early Childhood Programming. This full-time position includes office hours, weekend services, and occasional evening hours, as needed. He/she will report directly to the Director of Children’s Ministries.


SPECIFIC Responsibilities: 

  • Support and Oversight
    • Oversees all Early Childhood programs, curriculum, staffing, and events
    • Coaches, encourages, supervises, and develops the members and ministries of Early Childhood; facilitates coordination, communication, accountability and evaluation of staff within Early Childhood Ministries
    • Has full knowledge of Children’s Ministries in order to serve leaders, Ministry Partners and parents; maintains consistency within Early Childhood Ministries at both the RR and WH campuses
    • Works in conjunction with the Children’s Ministries leadership team in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and all trainings for Children’s Ministries
    • Assists with the oversight of the Early Childhood calendar, budget and purchases
    • Oversees the Early Childhood Weekend Coordinator and Early Childhood Midweek Coordinator
    • Supervises and schedules weekend programs, in conjunction with the Coordinators and Division Leaders
    • Rotates during weekend services to ensure quality and performance of staff/Ministry Partners
    • Interviews, hires, dismisses and evaluates Early Childhood Volunteer Coordinators and Division Leaders; has input into the evaluation and hiring of Early Childhood Weekend and Midweek Coordinators
    • Stays current on curriculum and Early Childhood procedures through research and networking
    • Is a mandatory reporter and advocate for children; gives objective information to the director, when needed
    • Maintains specified weekly office hours
  • Special Events and Supplemental Programming
    • Works with the Director of Children’s Ministries to organize and plan Early Childhood Ministries special events and supplemental programming (VBS, Little Fingers Creative Camp and other designated children’s team events)
    • Helps coordinate and oversee staffing for special events; provides task specific training, as needed
    • Maintains both short- and long-term program plans within the WVC scope and sequence, and the Children’s Ministries team calendar
  • Communication
    • Meets weekly with the Director of Children’s Ministries to communicate needs and concerns and discuss current or future events
    • Attends monthly all-staff meeting, weekly coordinator meeting, and weekly staff meeting to interact with director, office team, department coordinators and division leaders regarding programming
    • Collaborates with Communication Arts and the Director of Children’s Ministries on the design and implementation of all promotional and informational pieces for Early Childhood
    • Coordinates Web-based information and registration forms for events
    • Coordinates registrations for fee-based events with Finance and the Director of Children’s Ministries
    • Collaborates with the Director of Children’s Ministries on the production and editing of all communication sent to parents, staff and Ministry Partners
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements: 

  • Education/Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree; a degree from a seminary or Bible college is desired
    • Excellent organizational and administrative skills; detail-oriented and flexible with a team spirit; good time management skills
    • Experience in supervising and managing leaders
    • Previous experience in creating, coordinating and managing both large- and small-scale events 
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Computer skills with proficiency in Mac programs, Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet
    • Experience working with children, and the ability to positively interact with staff, children, parents, and Ministry Partners
    • A desire to create an environment where children receive every opportunity to build a solid foundation of faith, encouraging them to receive Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior
    • Demonstrates an ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ through regular prayer, Bible study and worship attendance
    • A member of WVC who supports its vision and values, as well as contributes time and tithes
  • Physical Requirements
    • Ability to retrieve and transport 35 lbs
    • Reliable transportation
