Job Description:

GRACE CHURCH of Granger, Indiana, a non-affiliated Baptist Church, is seeking a new pastor who is a follower of Jesus Christ and a committed Christian. He must embrace and uphold Biblical principles and teachings, particularly the priesthood of the believer and the autonomy of the local church.

What is Grace Church all about? Our vision statement is this: reaching our community; building the family; and impacting our world. Existing to make a difference in the lives of families living in the Michiana area, we are committed to using whatever means possible to meet the needs of each and every individual.

The senior pastor’s primary role is to lead the church in the effort to make disciples and to lead those disciples to a place of spiritual maturity. He shall be faithful in the Bible so that the congregation may grow in their understanding and application of God’s Word.

Some expectations of the senior pastor are as follows:

1. Visionary
- defines and communicates the vision for our church by building teams and systems that make it happen now and into the future
- acts as a ‘fisherman’ with a passion for the unsaved and for outreach

2. Leadership Developer
- delegates responsibilities so that he is not overloaded
- equips and transitions people into greater areas of responsibility
- knows the best way to facilitate change within our church
- realizes that he likely does not do everything in ministry equally well and, therefore, is willing and able to delegate duties without feeling threatened

3. Communicator
- inspires the congregation to live out the messages in their daily lives
- develops and presents the speaking (series) calendar
- takes responsibility for the majority of the Sunday messages
- motivates the church body to get more involved within the church
- stands firm on issues of Biblical truths
- desires to connect with church members

4. Listener
- models transparency in his life
- shares his experiences and listens to others with empathy
- shows a willingness to listen to new ideas and to try them
- listens to his staff as he builds them into a team, edifying them as individuals to effectively serve in the church
- is easily approached
- counsels members who need assistance

5. Man of God
- exhibits the godly character qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1Peter 5:1-4; and Acts 6:4
- commits fully to serve God and to challenge the church body in growing spiritually

A congregational survey was conducted, and from this we found that the church body prefers candidates for the senior pastor position who have the following:
1. 6-10 years of pastoral experience
2. A Master’s Degree from Seminary
3. Experience of presenting the Word of God as it applies to our daily lives
