Position Description
Children’s Ministries Director
Purpose: Our vision is to lead members and attendees into becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. The goal of this position is to lead our children toward the same goal.
Position summary: The primary responsibility of the Children’s Ministries Director is develo nd administering programs for children, birth through 5th grade, which will teach the gospel, biblical truths and character development.
1. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to grow closer to Him.
2. The ability to develop and communicate a compelling vision for the children’s ministry.
3. Genuinely concerned about children, enjoys being with them and investing in their lives.
4. Commitment or calling to children’s ministry.
5. The ability to recruit, support, motivate and lead volunteers.
6. A proven self-starter who is creative, organized, and resourceful.
7. Competent and comfortable in communicating with children and adults.
8. In alignment with our doctrinal, vision and core values statements.
9. A degree or equivalent experience in Children’s Ministry or a related field.
10. Two or more years of leadership in children’s programming preferred.
11. Computer skills with the willingness and ability to stay familiar with current technology.
• Teach children about God, and lead them toward maturity in Christ.
• Select or create curriculum that is relevant and Biblically based to encourage children in their spiritual development.
• Pray for children and their families in the programs.
• Plan and organize the various programs for children (Sunday morning, Wednesday night, summer Sunday programming, preschool, nursery, parent/child dedication).
• Plan and organize annual seasonal outreach events for children and families (examples: Summer VBS, musicals, Christmas outreach event).
• Be creative in planning lessons that are age appropriate and finding curriculum for the various events.
• Manage registration for various programs and events; maintain database for Children’s ministries/families
• Maintain database of volunteer screening/background checks.
• Develop and maintain a yearly budget for the ministry; manage expenses; organize receipts.
• Make sure all classrooms are safe, clean and organized.
• Ensure security and safety procedures are followed.
• Create and maintain a schedule for volunteer staff.
• Promote the ministry, communicate about upcoming events (examples: Wednesday night program, Sunday School programs, summer programs, Trout Lake Camp, Bible Basics)
• Create and maintain open communication with other staff, parents, volunteers and children.
• Develop relationships with the children and the families. Meet and welcome new families to the church.
• Manage conflicts or behavior problems with the children.
• Collaborate with other staff on church wide special events.
• Recruit, equip, and support volunteers
• Provide direction for the Children’s Ministries and make sure they align with the church’s overall mission.
• Have periodic meetings with the Children’s Ministry Team.
• Develop and implement a discipline policy.
Self Management
• Manage own time effectively.
• Assure that you are fed spiritually.
• Attend annual training seminars for Children’s Ministries.
• Attend staff meetings. Report to the Senior Pastor and the Leadership Team.
