Job Description:
The Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture (BSEC), a humanist religious community, is seeking a part-time clergy Leader (20 hours a week). The Leader for this growing and vibrant community will be responsible for coordinating Sunday Platforms, supporting the Children’s Sunday Assembly and attending, as necessary, to the pastoral needs of the congregation. We search for someone who has experience and interest in community outreach as well as in growing and deepening the Brooklyn Ethical community.

Situated in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn Ethical is a welcoming community committed to nurturing and promoting ethical relationships in all aspects of life. It reaches out to those seeking a community in which to engage current social justice issues. Further, BSEC values interfaith, small group and other community dialogs in order to develop and practice the precepts of the ethical culture movement.

We are looking for a dynamic speaker familiar with current religious, philosophical, scientific, economic and political literature, who is able to provide sound ethical comments about the dilemmas in these fields, as well as someone who is stimulating and supportive of inquiry and social activism. The candidate should be approachable, with experience working with congregations or membership groups, providing motivation to member volunteers, and organizing and sustaining small groups. The Leader will be responsible to the Lay Governing Board and work with the Administrative Director and Children's Sunday Assembly Director.

The candidate should have an advanced degree in theology, philosophy, social science, the sciences, or humanities, and be willing to enter Ethical Culture Leadership training (for more information, visit
