Tell People You’re Job-Seeking

By: Luke Miller

The conscientious job seeker that you are, you’ve polished your resume, laundered your best business formal attire (just in case), and you’ve scoured the web for the best available positions. But, you may be forgetting one of your best tools - your networks!

Make sure that friends and relatives know that you’re searching for a job. Post on Facebook, send an e-mail, share with your small group. You never know when that dream job is just one friend removed. A good friend of mine was looking for some freelance work recently and, within a couple of hours of posting to his Facebook wall, he had a dozen or so job requests.

Your friends and family can’t help you if you don’t ask, so be sure to tell as many people as you can that you’re looking for a new job. They’re your best advocates, and they’ll be happy to help!
