Bring Your Ideas

By: Luke Miller

You never get a second chance to make a good first impression. When you’re getting ready for an interview, this should be your mantra. You’ll get a few minutes with a potential employer, and how you perform can make all the difference. Asking good questions is important, as is demonstrating a knowledge of the industry, company, and position. But that’s not enough.

You’ll also want to prepare for the interview by thinking through the ways in which you can help the organization to which you’re applying. A potential employer will want to hear your ideas. What contacts do you have that you can bring to bear? What initiatives do you believe you’re uniquely positioned to develop and execute?

Remember that an interview is not just an opportunity to share your past, but also an opportunity to talk about the future, the future of the organization with you in it.
